Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) appears to be the herb that is most often used to increase milk supply. It is an excellent galactagogue, and has been used as such for centuries. In one study of ten women, "the use of fenugreek significantly increased volume of breast milk".
Nursing mothers can increase DHA levels of breast milk by adding flax seed, in the diet. When essential fatty acids are increased in the diet, it's also important to take a multinutrient rich in antioxidants to help protect the fatty acids from being destroyed.
